Word came a week or so ago that the backlog at the NYC consulate has cleared and we are now acknowledged to be Italian citizens since birth. We still need Italian birth certificates to be transcribed in Scapoli (the town we registered in) which will happen in January. Then we will get the documentation we need to file with the consulate to register as Italian citizens living abroad. Once that has been taken care of we can get those lovely red passports from our consulate in New York. All in all should be done in January with passport taken care of sometime in February!
Made an updated version of our trip to Scapoli, this time a little shorter and with some (hopefully) clearer point on the citizenship pursuit.
