Luglio / July
With an abundance of free time to spend after EHP had come to end my roommate and I decided to spend the weekend up north in what many know to be Cinque Terre.
A rugged portion of coast on the Italian Riviera, "Cinque Terre" is located in the Liguria region of Italy to the west of the city of La Spezia. "The Five Lands" consists of five small villages nestled between vast mountain ranges: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. I'd made a slight misjudgment when booking our airbnb and we ended up in the town of La Spezia, which is not in fact part of the five most famous destinations of the CInque Terre. It turned out to be a minor issue though as the train was only about 20 minutes into the towns we were interested in exploring. We were interested in completing a challenging hike while there so we could soak in the insane view from way up high and get a good work out in. We ended up hiking three of the five mountains in just under five hours under some seriously hot sun. We finished the rest of the day by floating in the waves, catching the last ferry back to make the train home.
